JAMES C. HICKMAN

PROFILE: James Hickman was born in July of 1908. Hickman had served as a trainer, owner, chart writer and was founder of the selection sheet for Derby Lane. In 1980 Hickman was added to the PIONEER section of the Hall of Fame.

HISTORY: Hickman began his greyhound career in 1925 as a trainer, from 1927 to 1937 he also owned greyhounds. In 1937 Hickman founded the Happy Days Selection Sheet for Derby Lane Kennel Club. He named his sheet after a long time friend, Happy Ackerman. The selection sheet has been a part of the Derby Lane Kennel Club from that time to the present. Hickman also performed chart writing duties at Sodrac Greyhound Park in 1951. In 1980 one of Hickman’s sons was still active in the industry as an owner.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS: James Hickman’s Happy Days Selection Sheet is one of the oldest and most reliable selection sheets in the country today.
