LARRY FONTES

PROFILE: Larry Fontes was a veteran of the sport for more than 40 years. In 1981 when Fontes was added to the PIONEER section, he was still operating a racing kennel at Taunton and Raynham, MA.

HISTORY: Larry Fontes was one of the original canvassers for greyhound racing in Bristol County, Massachusetts. In 1934 he went door-to-door to get racing established. Fontes spent 12 years as a Taunton High School baseball coach and city councilor. Fontes was the first kennel master at Taunton for Joe Linsey.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Fontes not only helped in getting racing established in New England, he also operated a racing kennel in the area for many years. Some of Fontes better known greyhounds were RABBIT RUN and CRABAPPLE. Fontes was honored June 8, 1980 by the Eastern Greyhound Club for his love and devotion to the greyhound.
